Transfer of Dog/Cat Ownership
All transfers of ownership should be accompanied by a notarized letter from the former owner; this letter must demonstrate complete delegation to the new owner and authorization to transfer the current rabies tag and microchip number, if applicable.
If a notarized letter is not an option, both parties will be required to appear at the Animal Control Division with valid State picture IDs and proof of current address for the new owner.
Dogs/Cats must have a current tag and be current on the rabies vaccination and the rabies certificate has to be in new owner’s name.
Note: Before any animal that has been adopted from the Animal Control Division can be transferred to a new owner, it has to be approved by the Animal Control Division according to the contract.
