RETURNING AN ADOPTED PET
Adopted animals may be returned to the Animal Control Division for a refund or exchange according to the guidelines stated in the contract. This will apply in a case where an animal has a medical condition that was not disclosed at the time of adoption and the condition is confirmed in a written evaluation by a licensed veterinarian. The other case where an owner may be eligible for a refund or exchange occurs when an animal dies within a reasonable amount of time of adoption and is returned to Animal Control Division deceased.
Adopters assume all medical and financial responsibility for adopted animals. For more details on adopter responsibilities, refer to the adoption contract. If after adoption the animal becomes ill, the owner is responsible for its care. Animal Control Division will not provide medical care in this situation.
If the pet is returned for any other reason by its owner, the animal is considered a surrendered pet and the owner is not entitled to a refund or exchange.
