Results of the 2035 Long Range Transportation Plan Public Visioning Forum

October 18, 2010

On Monday, October 18th, 2010, the Cleveland MPO facilitated a public visioning forum at the Cleveland Public Library from 6pm to 8pm. The purpose of the forum was to present the goals and objectives for the 2035 Long Range Transportation Plan and receive feedback from members of the community. The goals for the vision of the what the community will be like in the year 2035 included:

  1. Preserve the Existing Rural Character
  2. Strengthen Partnerships through Collaboration
  3. Promote Targeted Growth and Sustainability
  4. Enhance and Maintain Transportation Choice

Under each goal, several potential objectives that could be implemented to support each goal were listed.  Participants at the meeting were given one red dot to “vote” for their top priority and four yellow dots to “vote” for other goals or objectives that they felt were also priorities. After the visioning exercise, a presentation on existing transportation conditions was given and the participants were then given another opportunity to use colored dots to “vote” for their top priorities for transportation projects around the Cleveland Area. Options for the voting of transportation projects included traffic congestion areas, intersections, bicycle paths, sidewalks, freight corridors and others. The results of the voting from this public forum will be formally released at the next public forum, scheduled for late November 2010 or early December 2010. Once the next forum is scheduled, a meeting notice will be posted to this webpage.

This public forum was the most successful forum the MPO has ever had for the development of a plan!  It was attended by 53 members of the general public and representatives from partners of the MPO, including the Cleveland/Bradley County Chamber of Commerce, the Cleveland Urban Area Transit System, the State of Tennessee Department of Transportation, Bradley County Planning Commission, the City of Cleveland City Council, MainStreet Cleveland, the City of Cleveland, the Cleveland Housing Authority, Cleveland State Community College, Scott’s Bicycle Co, Trailhead Bicycle Co, the Cleveland Daily Banner, the Chattanooga Times Free Press, United Way, and the Boy Scouts of America.

The MPO would like to extend its thanks to all of the partners who contributed to the success of this public forum. Without your partnership, the forum would not have been such a success.
